class covers single and dual air brake systems, foundation brakes and brake chambers, s-cams, bushings, spiders, wedge assemblies and slack adjusters, reservoirs, valves, anti-lock diagnostics and blink code definitions.
Also covered are air system components, interlock systems, air suspension and kneel system. Diagnosis, adjustment and repair procedures will be stressed for all air and air brakes components. The trainee will be well informed of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the Out of Service Criteria established by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. Stopping distances and other safety requirements established by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121 are covered in detail. Shop work includes brake inspection, adjustment and service, air valve testing and problem diagnosis. Also covered is air system service and problem diagnosis. Included are anti-lock diagnosis using blink codes and the diagnostic reader. Safety and shop procedures are an important part of this class which is intended for experienced mechanics as well as those new to the trade or not familiar with the proper inspection, adjustment or repair of the air brake system or the diagnosis and repair of problems in the anti-lock brakes system.
